With the No. 60 pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, the San Jose Sharks took Dylan Gambrell out of the University of Denver.
Part of what makes Gambrell so intriguing is his versatility. He plays center, though could easily move to wing, and though he has some scoring punch to perhaps be a second line forward in the NHL, he could be very effective in a bottom six role some day.
He scored 47 points in 41 games with the Pioneers last season and was ranked 67th by NHL Central Scouting. This is a bit of an off-the-board pick as the Sharks add another center, an area they’ve gotten thin in lately.
